Well-being & Mental Health

At Newnham St Peter's Primary School, nurturing the well-being and mental health of our pupils is central to our ethos.  Our comprehensive approach encompasses various initiatives and partnerships to ensure that every pupil feels supported, valued, and equipped to thrive.

Holistic Approach

Our school prioritises a holistic approach to well-being, addressing not only academic success but also the emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of each pupil's life. Our Christian values underpin our commitment to creating a caring and inclusive environment where everyone feels respected and supported.

Pastoral Care

We have a dedicated pastoral care team that provides support to pupils facing challenges. From one-on-one snacks and chat meetings to group support sessions and therapy, we offer a range of interventions to meet the diverse needs of our pupils.

External Partnerships

We work closely with external organisations such as Young Minds Matter (YMM) and other mental health groups to access additional support and resources for our pupils and families. These partnerships enable us to provide comprehensive support that extends beyond the school gates.

Emotional Literacy Support

Our Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) plays a crucial role in supporting pupils' emotional well-being. Through targeted interventions and personalised support plans, our ELSA helps pupils develop resilience and coping strategies to navigate life's challenges.

Mindfulness and Meditation

Mindfulness and meditation practices are integrated into our daily routines, providing pupils with valuable tools to manage stress and anxiety. Regular meditation sessions promote relaxation and self-awareness, fostering a positive mindset and emotional resilience.

Continuous Learning and Development

Our staff participate in regular training and professional development to enhance their understanding of mental health issues and effective support strategies. By staying informed and up-to-date with best practices, our staff are well-equipped to provide the highest quality of care to our pupils.

At Newnham St Peter's Primary School, we are dedicated to nurturing the well-being and mental health of our pupils, ensuring that they feel supported, valued, and empowered to thrive. Through our holistic approach, external partnerships, and commitment to Christian values, we create an environment where every pupil can flourish and reach their full potential.
