Health & Well-being

At Newnham St. Peter's Primary School, we are dedicated to promoting positive mental health and emotional wellbeing for all our pupils, their families, as well as our staff and governors. Our school ethos emphasises an open culture where pupils' voices are listened to and valued. Through the implementation of robust policies and procedures, we strive to cultivate a safe and supportive environment for all individuals affected by mental health challenges, whether directly or indirectly.

In addition to our policy framework, we have implemented various initiatives aimed at supporting mental health and wellbeing within our school community. These initiatives are integrated into individual pupils' curricula and offer targeted interventions to promote good mental health and wellbeing while facilitating access to learning. Some of these initiatives include:

  • Forest School: Engaging outdoor activities that foster holistic wellbeing.
  • ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants): Trained professionals who provide support and guidance to pupils in managing emotions and building resilience.
  • Music / Art / Play Therapy: Utilising music/art/play as a therapeutic tool to promote emotional expression, communication, and relaxation.
  • YMM: Access to specialist mental health services through Young Minds Matter
  • CAMHS: Access to specialist mental health services through Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)

At Newnham St. Peter's Primary School, we are committed to fostering a culture of wellbeing where every member of our school community feels supported and valued. Together, we strive to create an environment where everyone can flourish academically, emotionally, and socially.
